The Ones Who Truly Cared

We started out as only friends,
Then we promised till the end.
A love that would last forever,
You swore you'd hurt me never.
It started out with playful punches,
and as they all told me it was bad,
I ignored all their hunches.
One day while I was on the phone you accused me of being untrue,
As you grabbed me when I denied,
I struggled to be free from you.
After three days I could stay gone no longer,
I returned home hoping the fire had gone sombre.
Apologies flew out for a week
For the bruises you left upon my cheek.
Why I stayed I'll never know,
Now I lay disfigured in the morgue labelled Jane Doe.
Now our children live in fear that mommies voice they'll never hear.
I should have listened to the ones who truly cared!!!
